Broome Volunteer Sea Rescue was formed in 1997 and comprises a group of hard working and well trained volunteers dedicated to safety of lives at sea. The group is fully accredited by the WA Fire & Emergency Services Authority (FESA), and provides a high quality rescue service to the Broome maritime community and provides support to other emergency agencies. Our operational area extends from 80 Mile Beach to the south and Cape Leveque to the north.

The Group's Functions Include:
Radio Watch
Broome Sea Rescue does not currently have an active 24x7 radio listening watch. This service will be available in the future upon completion of a fixed land base for the group near the Port of Broome. However, VHF emergency / calling Channel 16 (156.800) are monitored whenever the Broome Volunteer Sea Rescue boat is at sea.
On water rescue service
Redbill II is the Broome Sea Rescue vessel. It is a stateof- the-art NAIAD 8.5 metre Rigid Hulled Inflatable Boat (RHIB) powered by twin 225hp outboard motors providing a top speed of 50 knots and a range of around 300Nm at cruising speed. The Group operates with three rostered crews who are are on 24/7 on-call basis.
Support Service for Special Events
The Group provides a support and rescue service for events such as Dragon Boat regattas and Surf Club events where requested. Please visit: www.broomesearescue.org.au for events and news.
Broome Sea Rescue does not act in a regulatory capacity and does not perform checks on safety equipment required under maritime regulations.
Be Safe
Telling someone where you are going and when you will be back every time you venture onto the water is an important safety precaution that every responsible skipper should routinely complete.
It is a very simple procedure that ensures that in the event you may strike trouble, assistance can be provided as soon as possible.
