Off Road Vehicles

The Control of Vehicles (Off-Road Areas) Act applies in the Broome town-site. There are areas within the Shire that are set aside for use by road-registered off-road vehicles.

Motorcars and other road-registered vehicles are permitted to drive and/or park between the high and low watermarks on Cable Beach to the north of the access road only. However to limit the impact of vehicles on nesting turtles in Broome, Cable Beach will be closed at night to all vehicles throughout the turtle nesting season from 8pm to 6am, October 1 to February 28.

Cable Beach will also be closed to all vehicles two hours either side of the high tide when it is nine metres or greater. The gate at the Cable Beach Amphitheatre will be locked into place during the temporary closures. Amphitheatre vehicle access is permitted at all other times.

At Gantheaume Point vehicles are only permitted to travel between the high and low watermarks for 450 metres from the access road.

No unregistered vehicles, motorbikes or beach buggies are permitted on Cable Beach or Gantheaume Point Beach.

In order to conserve Broome's dunal system, motor vehicles or motorbikes are not permitted in the dunes from Gantheaume Point through to Cable Beach and Coconut Well including the lagoon.

The maximum speed limit on all beach areas is 15km/hr.
